Mounjez village, located in Akkar district, holds the biggest necropolis of megalithic tombs in Lebanon.
Discovered in the 1940s by the Jesuit fathers, the megalithic tombs date back to the end of the Chalcolithic Age and the early Bronze Age.
Numbering around 87, the megalithic tombs are also known as dolmen chambers, all made of basaltic stone that can only be found in Akkar.
