Al Batieh site, located in Jounieh, is an ancient funerary cave that dates back to the Phoenician era, and became later on a place of worship and Christian pilgrimage in the Middle Ages.
There are several shrines cut into the rocks, one of which supposedly was a Phoenician shrine dedicated to the God Adonis. It is also believed that St. Georges came to the site to clean off his spear after battling and slaying the dragon near Beirut.
