Ain Aakrine Temple

El Koura District

· Northern Lebanon

Ain Akrin village, located in Koura district, houses 2 roman temples that probably dates back to the 1st century AD.

The temple that is featured in this post has survived pretty well, while the second one lies in ruins.

This temple is surrounded by a huge enclosure with a beautiful decorated entrance gate (check the last picture), and was built following the Corinthian order.

The temple is believed to be dedicated to Astarte, the chief goddess of both the Canaanites, though nothing is yet confirmed about this claim.
